How to Calculate What Grade You Need
Use the formula: Required Final Score = (Target Grade – Current Grade × (1 – Final Weight)) / Final Weight. This tells you exactly what percentage you need on your final exam to achieve your desired course grade.
Example
If your current grade is 78%, your final is worth 30%, and you want an 80% final grade:
Required = (0.80 – 0.78 × 0.70) / 0.30 = (0.80 – 0.546) / 0.30 = 84.7%
